TOLERATE Project

Assessing tolerable climate change induced risk levels

In this research project the goal is to assess how likely increases in extreme weather conditions (that may get more extreme) can affect the regional and national economy in the period 2020-2050. Both effects of heavy flooding and severe draught will be studied, including applications to identified hazards in selected regions in Finland. Next to direct and induced economic effects (damage) also coping strategies are analysed on their expected effectiveness for risk reduction. The project runs until April 2008 and is a co-operation with the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), the Finnish Environmental Institute (FEI) and the National Technical Research Centre (VTT).
